Locking in Moments

29EE5D0E-DC7C-4BA3-B2B3-454D91CE4CB6

Have you ever had moments where you wish that time could just stand still? Of course, we all do. I’ve always wondered why during mundane times such as being stuck in traffic, being in class or at work, every minute can feel like an hour. Time seems to pass so slowly then but time really does fly when you’re having fun. I am all about living in the moment and creating memories. Although the moments don’t seem to last, the memories tend to live on in our hearts forever.

For the past few weeks, my children (who are grown adults now) have been visiting me in Korea. It was there first time being in Korea and I was more excited for them to come than me being here. I wanted to show them everything I had been telling them about since they were little. Every day was jam packed and I hope they had as amazing time as I did. They both have since left, back to school and their prospective jobs. Although there were great memories made, I can’t help but wonder how fast the time went while they were here.

0F45E724-2F6B-46FB-9C03-5DC231D84DDD.jpeg

I’m an empty nester and have been for the past few years. It was incredibly difficult at first. I had to see not one, but two leave the nest. With time, it does get easier, you tend to settle into a different daily routine and mindset. I do have my moments when I do miss them horribly and that will never change no matter how long it’s been. It’s a certain type of emptiness that tends to linger. I no longer heard their familiar footsteps, or the sounds of them rummaging through the fridge for a snack. The sounds stopped completely. As moms/ parents, we spend a big portion of our lives caring and tending to our children’s well being. Our main focus and priorities revolve around them. When that wasn’t there on a daily basis, you start questioning your entire identity. I was a mom, who am I now?

When my boys were younger, I was always told “they grow up so fast.” I cannot tell you just how true those words are. I remember when they turned a week old, and wanting them to stop growing. A week turned into a year, then the teenage years and in a blink of an eye, they were adults.  Yes, it really is just that fast. Every week and every year, I didn’t want my kid to keep growing. I did enjoy every moment and still do. I am defiantly that parent that would have been fine with my boys living with me until they were 40. I’ve met parents who couldn’t wait for their kids to move out and I just couldn’t wrap my mind around that. Children are such a blessing and I loved being with mine.

B3104EDC-E64C-4C32-89BE-A2F367FB8391.jpeg

We do not get our yesterdays back. Once it’s passed, it’s a memory. My advice is, to not only parents, is to really make each moment count. If your child wants to go to the movies or the beach, or whatever they would like to do with you, then take them. They can’t make their childhood memories with you if these things don’t happen. There will be a day when you wish you could, but no longer can. We are not promised a tomorrow, but you’re going to wish you had your yesterdays back.

Lock in your moments, take a minute to really take everything in and appreciate the time you have. Memories are great and will always carry you, but please be fully present in the now.

Stop Apologizing, Start Posting

F970FE67-30F3-4871-AD0A-686EFA488B69

Life’s moments are so fleeting and how we feel about or see ourselves can change on any given day. Some days you can feel unstoppable, on top of the world, and then there are those days you feel insecure. “I don’t want to be that girl who posts selfies all the time,” is something I hear frequently. Who cares if you are? The only one who really notices or is paying that close attention, is you. Kim Kardashian even has a book about it! Kim is making a fortune off of her book featuring her own selfies and she’s definately not apologizing for it.

54D2567B-419D-4B1A-A5CE-7D656331CC8F

Stop apologizing, start posting. You will look back when you’re 80 and think wow I was hot, I’m so glad I have these photos to look back on. If you’re starting off your posts by saying “I’m sorry, but I feel cute today” or “so sorry for the repost but I really loved this dress” then stop it!  If you’re feeling yourself, then good, you should be. You’re gorgeous so don’t be afraid to shine! You have no reason to apologize to anyone, just be that confident you. Post it. Take that photo. Don’t be your own personal hater. There’s already enough of that out there in the world.

D8B623B4-91E3-404C-9136-DB2621649E90

Are you feeling fly in that dress/ outfit? Is your makeup is on point?  Then yes, take that pic, take that selfie. No need to apologize. “Sorry guys for another selfie”…stop saying sorry for being you. Why are you apologizing?  If someone tells you otherwise, drown out that noise. You don’t need that kind of negativity, you do you, boo! If you see your girl posting on social media, be supportive! Queens should be supporting fellow queens and like her photo! Tell her she looks fabulous because kindness is free. Last I heard, no one is living your life but you. Bring out your inner goddess, your high level diva moment and snap away!

BA896239-0D8C-4B68-ACA0-6D5012329EB5

I used to watch shows of celebrity homes and many would typically have a life size portrait of themselves hanging on their walls. I remember thinking they were incredibly vain. I don’t have this mindset anymore. In fact, I can see myself doing the same thing! I hope I do have full shots of me adorning my walls someday. If I felt incredible, I want to memorialize and remember it. Nothing vain about it. Live your most extra fabulous best life! This is a fun way to document your journey and these moments because it doesn’t last forever. Please stop apologizing and just post it!

Taking Photos And Social Anxiety

2E4F0E17-5FC1-4510-864C-008F2798D142

Taking photos is just a part of social media, blogging, etc, and it plays a big role. The smiles, the poses but what really goes into that photo? When you’re out in public or in a crowded area or you’re with friends and take photos, or even by yourself with a selfie, you snap a few and stop. In a selfie ruled world, a lot of us really don’t like to do it in view of other people. Our Facebook. Instagram, snaps chats, social media’s profiles are filled with selfies and pics. I don’t get why, in reality, we are quick with taking photos in public and try to be as discreet as possible about it. We all do it, we snap a few and slyly look around to see if anyone is watching. If you’re in the clear, you take more and if not, you put your phones away. You don’t take too many, you don’t want to draw attention to yourself. Why the judgement when we all selfie? I really don’t know why there is such a stigma against taking multiple photos but after a short amount of shots, we stop. We all do it. You take a few and keep it moving. If you’re feeling that level of self consciousness with just a few snaps from your phone, being a blogger, when photos are key, it can be even more daunting. It’s not easy putting yourself out there like that and it really does take some guts to do it.

2BE63180-D18F-4E3A-AA2D-CE97B5C7209C.jpeg

I wish I could snap a few shots and call it a day but it never happens that way. I can take dozens, sometimes even a couple hundred and only a few shots are even usable. Even worse, I can spend hours shooting and everything will work against me, the wind, the lighting, weather, location, my outfit, poses, crowds and I can literally walk away without any usable content. It’s frustrating to say the least, to spend hours and no pay off. I guess I can say it’s a learning experience and use it to my advantage the next time around.

B98932EF-A889-459B-9CAB-379D1E3F0742

A lot of us already know that the ideal time to take photos is when there is no one around and not crowded. So we head off at the best time before this particular spot becomes congested. If something opens up at 9, I will probably get there around 8 or even earlier. Thank you google for showing the busiest times at locations. But then you have the prime golden hour, which is the most magical lighting, but everyone is around. When I am in a highly populated area, I can feel silly and quite self conscious as people are passing by.

3E172D22-3F4F-4995-B45C-4CD7C301FE87.jpeg

Taking photos around others isn’t as easy at looks. What you don’t see beyond the smile and pose, is all the people walking around. Some stare, some gawk, point, honk their horn, laugh, roll their eyes, and some ask what you’re doing. These things really do happen. It’s not always bad, I’ve met some supportive people along the way. It can be difficult to be in your element and just do your thing. We all want to take our friendship or selfie shots as soon as we can and get it over with, but I have to keep taking photo after photo to get that best shot. Even if it means there’s a crowd milling around and at that point, I feel ridiculously vain taking photos, setting up my tripod for just myself. What I’ve learned is to ignore it or smile at the passerbys. Most of the time, they smile back, so this definitely works. Or I pretend I am fiddling around with my camera, making adjustments until they leave and this works too.

4B1935B1-984C-49FE-80FD-77DABE181C7A

What I have learned, that works the best, is just to face it head on. I try not over think it, and tell myself that I don’t know these people and they don’t know me. I’ll probably never see them again and keep on posing and smiling untill I have the photos I need. It can be unnerving having people watch you. You have to dig deep and pretend you don’t see them and not let it affect you. Sometimes I have to blast Eminem or my girl Cardi B through my headphones just to get into that mode and mindset. Stop getting in my own head if I want to get it done. Taking photos is public places can be embarrassing and sometimes I just want to pack up my stuff and leave. But I make myself stay, I push through it and remind myself that it’s not their opinion of me that makes a difference in who I am.

96F3D79B-785F-41C0-B58C-70D86A5514B9

I tell myself, you got this, who cares what they think, stay confident, you’re strong, you’re a boss babe, just go take those photos. Sometimes I can be quite harsh and not so nice to myself and say “just stfu, quit being a baby, who cares about those people and just go do it. I literally have to tell my brain to shut up , turn my thoughts off and make myself. Its important that I set my purpose and know I have reason for doing this. I have a goal and it’s something I have to remind myself.

Joys of Traveling Solo

I started my journey in solo traveling in 2017. It was my first trip to California and something I had never ventured into before. I was nervous, a little scared and also really excited. After having done one under my belt, I have since done a couple of others and will continue to do so.

97E2C9BA-058D-4A27-853D-3E6F8C97740E.jpeg

When I tell people that I will be traveling alone, I usually get met with the same expressions and same questions. I get a look of disbelief and awe. I get asked “Aren’t you scared? Won’t you be lonely? Isn’t that dangerous?” Or “I could never take a trip so far away from home all by myself.” Yes, sometimes I can get a little scared and it can be dangerous. Let’s face the reality, being a female solo traveler can have its disadvantages. You really have to watch your back and be aware of your surroundings. There are people in this world that do not have your best intentions at heart and being alone can be an easy target. I don’t venture out at night and I don’t put myself in situations that make me feel uncomfortable. Second, do I ever get lonely? Rarely. I am more focused on my destination and taking in all the sights around me. Sometimes I think about my loved ones who would appreciate the location but I do try and live in the moment.

AABA82F1-1588-41D1-ADBC-D07896C7DB36.jpeg

I believe that every woman should take at least one solo trip in her life. This is a wonderful chance at reflection and really getting to know yourself. There is such beauty in being alone in your own thoughts and presence. Some of my trips have brought out the most clarity and understanding to the matters of my own heart. I encourage you to at least try it, just have a well thought out plan and agenda before going all in.

Some advantages to solo traveling, is being on your own schedule. I am such a type A personality that I need to have a set schedule and itinerary. Deviating from my plan brings me anxiety. Since I am on my own, I don’t have to worry about being on someone else’s time or  stress out because they are running late, which puts me behind on my day. I choose the stops I want to make and the sights I want to see. If I want to take an hour taking photos somewhere, I certainly will! If I want to take in an exhibit or some other cheesy touristy pit stop, there is no one around that will turn that idea down. If there is food or drinks I am craving, I don’t have to ask if anyone wants the same, I’ll just indulge.

CB23ADF0-0255-4BE4-BAEC-5A8B7D57AAEA.jpeg

Solo traveling is quite liberating, fun and a soul searching experience. It’s highly pampering and all about you!  Have you traveled alone before? How was your experience and where did you go?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Harsh Criticism

1A9F0F5E-A368-49EB-A81B-832928CBE0B0.jpeg

Recently, I went on a lunch date with an old friend of mine. We hadn’t seen each other in a while, so of course, there was quite a bit of catching up to do. I showed her my social media and I wasn’t expecting the response I received. She had put down most of my photos and didn’t like at least 75% of the dresses I wore. She mocked me for wearing longer styles  and said I looked like a missionary or a Mormon. (No offense at all to those who are, I’m only repeating what was said to show context of this conversation that took place.)  Ironically, some of my dresses are, in fact, from Mormon clothing sites. She asked me why I didn’t show more skin and why I chose to be so covered up.

82D2AB0A-ACC8-47F0-A101-8A67AEADDD25.jpeg

At first, I was taken a back, a little offended even. I knew it wasn’t coming from a bad place, she’s a brutally honest friend that speaks her mind and doesn’t hold back. We really do have different tastes.  However, it did sting a little. Was she right? Was she seeing something everyone else did and I was blind to it? After a while of pondering on it, I realized that while putting myself out there, I need to take the criticism whether it be good or bad. If there was a time to develop thick skin, this was it. I’m not always going to get positive reactions and it’s through the negatives that I can learn and do better. I’m not everyone’s cup of tea, some prefer coffee. Not everyone is going to love what you do or wear. It’s easy to hear the glowing compliments, but hard to listen to the negatives. What can I learn from this? How can I improve? Sometimes criticism just serves to build greater strength. If I think I’m on the right track and still feel passionate about the direction I’m headed, I’ll drown out that noise and keep going. Be your own cheerleader and your own biggest fan.

D2243C3C-274A-42B2-8A6C-3A6DC936990A.jpeg

Take the criticism, learn, grow and use it to become your best possible self. Sure, you’re not going to please everyone. I had to remind myself that this is what I like, and doing what I love is the most important thing. If you feel passionate about something, no one is going to be able put those flames out. Listening to the negatives that others have to say will only drag you down. It did drag me down, but only momentarily. I got back up and adjusted my crown, as all queens should do.

No Comparison

“I’m the only one of me…. baby, that’s the fun of me. You’re the only one of you… baby that’s the fun of you” Taylor Swift, Me.

A73CA905-6FA5-4AD5-AC52-F3E4CE8CBD2B

It’s hard not to compare ourselves to others, whether it be in real life or on social media. Scrolling through your feed, picture perfect lives and images flood our screens. Filter or no filter, the perfect hair, body, makeup, clothes or destinations of others can make our lives look bleak in comparison.

EA7A4607-B841-4DDB-BA73-A55DCBF7B3F8

I know that I’m guilty of playing the comparison game and I can’t possibly be the only one. Although I am a happy and confident girl, I can see one (or many) photos online that can make me feel less than adequate. I wonder if blogging or having a presence on social media can have that impact a little more. For example, I can feel great about a photo I’ve posted or an outfit I’m wearing, only to see a much better pic of someone else. Their page is filled with amazing photography or their outfits are stunning, with a wardrobe I can only dream of having. I start questioning if my photos are up to par, and I begin over analyzing every flaw I have.

DAC4FBB8-54D9-4840-9F6D-062A4A80AF4B

The thing is, we’re only human and we can’t help but to compare. It’s going to happen every once in a while, but it shouldn’t be something you should obsess over. Someone out there is going to have a better photos, higher skill set, better body, whatever it is, someone is going to do it better than you or me. We each have our own individual strengths and weaknesses. By not focusing on the weaknesses, building and enhancing our strengths is what makes us stand out as individuals. However, we all bring something worthwhile to the table and we are all so different and unique. That in itself is an amazing thing, how special we each are. We live in a big world, how boring it would be if we were all the same?

There is only one of me, there really is only one of you. When we realize that and embrace it, there is absolutely no comparison.

The Road To Happiness

FC9B515F-0013-4F88-AFCC-DBE438187F28.jpeg

“The most important thing is to enjoy your life- to be happy, it’s all that matters.” Audrey Hepburn

Most people want to be happy and many just don’t know how to achieve it. I’ve spent many years being unhappy and the longer I was, it just never seemed possible to get out of the head space I was stuck in. Years ago, I wanted to quit something so badly. I was young, afraid and miserable. Someone told me to fake being happy and eventually I would actually really feel happy. This stayed with me for many years, but I didn’t follow through with the advice. Although I didn’t quit, I was still quite miserable.

2FA21666-5A03-40BB-871E-EFED9C169CF7.jpeg

The faking bit can apply to many things, happiness, confidence… we all know the ‘fake it till you make it’ phrase. Even though I didn’t take the advice then, I’ve completely embraced it now. I mean, nothing else worked, why not give this a try?

Every day, we make choices. We choose to start our day with a cup of coffee, we choose to excercise and we choose our decisions that are going affect us. So why not choose to be happy?

5D14E6D7-1DDF-4967-A755-E52A30CEFDD6.jpeg

There are things in life that’s going to bring us down, even daily sometimes. Divorce, sickness, death and finances, sometimes these things are completely out of our control. I know that things happen for a reason and we may come to realize it later. However, there are things that’s happened in my life that makes me wonder if they had to happen at all? What was the learning experience or possible benefit from something so painful or negative? I may never understand but I do know that I’m alive today and that alone is something to be excited about. It’s not guaranteed but I’ve been blessed with another day.

4C7EB072-F8BE-49E6-8E88-E55158949424.jpeg

Instead of living day after day feeling miserable, it only serves as wasted time and energy. The biggest regret people have is what they should have done. Even I have those regrets as I reflect back on my own wasted time and energy, spent on the wrong people, places and things.

As much negative energy that we put in to being sad and miserable, the same could be said for putting in positive energy. I’ve learned, it doesn’t happen overnight and it’s most definately a choice, even if you have to start by faking it. It’s a new mindset and you’ve got to be consistent with it.

E5BB3D8E-A234-4100-AE27-5696EE89A7AC.jpeg

Here are some ways to find your inner happy place. Begin by loving yourself first. Treat yourself, spoil yourself, indulge yourself, even if there is no one out there that will, do it for you. You are with you 24/7, and you cannot escape yourself, it’s impossible. Do things you love to do. Go for walks, enjoy the sunset, read your favorite books, paint, write, travel, and pet your dog. There’s plenty for you to do and most don’t cost anything. If you stop doing the things that you love, you start feeling unhappy.

4EE599A7-D4B8-4B2C-B412-F3DE7D7B326E.jpeg

Motion is emotion. Keep on moving, you’re not going to find what you’re looking for in front of the tv, or sitting on your porch watching the world go by. Make your own happiness, just keep it in motion. Being sedentary is stale and that’s what your life will reflect.

My road to happiness was a long one. Start with loving you first and surrounding yourself with what you love. Fake it, put a smile on your face or laugh, even if you don’t want to. Eventually, it won’t be a fake smile, you’re literally going to feel that happy bursting inside of you. When you’ve reached a happiness point in your life, share it with others. Make yourself happy first, that’s where it begins. It’s not selfish, it’s your life and you only have one chance at it. Make it your best life.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I wish you all the happiness in the world. It’s out there, you just have to choose it.

What’s In a Name

2BC5BA13-4DC7-4448-93F4-9043E7638937

I often look at screen names and wonder, how did they come up with that? What’s the story behind that name? Some are funny, some are based on their name and some…well, I honestly don’t have any idea why they picked the name they did.  Your online name speaks volumes and tells the reader about you before they’ve read what you had to say or looked at your photos. It’s basically your first impression that you’re giving to your audience. Here’s how I picked mine.

I was on my first solo trip/ vacation in California. I was leaving L.A. (the fashion district, ironically) and deep in thought, letting my mind wander, as we typically do when we drive. As I was driving back to my hotel in Orange County, it hit me, literally out of nowhere. Dressedinjules! I had been debating a blog name for quite some time, and when it came into my head, I knew this was then one. All the other prospects I had in mind, immediately vanished and entered into the garbage bin. It felt right, it flowed, it had a certain ring to it, and most importantly, it felt like me.

E39B5271-C9E0-44EC-87B9-852A77837D16.jpeg

Dressedinjules is a play on words, dressed in jewels, actually.  I replaced the jewels with Jules and here I am today. I’ve been called Jules only by a handful of people throughout various times of my life. Each and every time someone called me that, I secretly loved it! Dressed because I love dresses and “jewels” because I’m somewhat of  high maintenance, kind of girl. Basically, Jules is showing you her life in dresses.

4C0DACA9-1E90-495A-A069-0C3090EF88FF.jpeg

So there you have it, the story of how my screen name/ blogger name/ Instagram handle came to fruition. What’s your story? How did you come up with your name?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

The Magic of Sunflowers

Stand tall like a sunflower and turn your face to the sun….

E924B8A2-6523-405F-9751-5080DB7D7C70.jpeg

The magic of sunflowers, a gorgeous yellow flower that looks up to the sun. It’s my favorite flower and it always puts a smile on my face. It doesn’t take long for them to grow and blossom but the beauty doesn’t last long, as summer turns into autumn. They’re so beautiful while they last though.

B76E5388-3C58-4EB2-B1DF-2494D49FDDC8

I fell in love with sunflowers when I was a little girl growing up in Korea. These flowers would grow in a nearby alley way where I would run and play with my friends. Even at such a young age, they captivated me like no other flower. So unique, bright and sunny. I used to pick them and then got yelled at by the “ajushi” (older man) that would grow them. I would run away and pick another the next day.  Such a wild and carefree child I was, much like the sunflower. I had found my “spirit flower.”

17841985-4483-4179-9748-FF0B69EBA017

Last year, I drove to Deer Park, Washington in search of gorgeous sunflower fields. I must have arrived too late in the season and missed my chance to see them in their full bloom and glory. I took some photos anyway and made the best of my experience there.

Hope you liked the look!

Memories and Mementos

While traveling, one thing I love to do, is pick up mementos or souvenirs to remember my trip. Of course, I can take photos and capture those moments, but I like that an item can instantly transport me back into time and all the memories I made can really bring upon a smile. I also love to shop, so any excuse to go shopping is a winner, in my book.

3C1700C4-F9D4-4138-98B5-DC2DF9839DDF

I used to collect shot glasses from the locations I’ve been to. Over time, I amassed so many that it took up so much space. I moved around a few times and eventually, the shot glasses just remained in their boxes, unpacked and unloved. I decided to start collecting post cards instead. This works wonderfully for me because they are so minimal, hardly take up any space, and there usually are quite a variety to choose from. Post cards really did capture my experience and gave me a memory to reflect back on.  I keep a journal, which is also part scrap book, and I tape my beloved post cards in it. A really lovely way to relive your journey. If you’re like me, and shot glasses became overwhelming, give post cards a try.

1F0A6EE6-CCF2-46AC-8522-8C94E154F87B

In addition to post cards, I’m usually drawn to jewelry. Bracelets are my favorite accessory because I can visually look down at my wrist and see them and admire them. I love picking up unique bracelets throughout my travels because it’s something I can wear over and over again. Jewelry makes such a great memento because you can relive those memories every time you glance down or wear them.

Do you pick up little souvenirs or mementos while on vacation or traveling? If so, what do you tend to collect?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Create Your Own Fairy Tale

B2304D0A-74A0-4D6E-BA0B-F22CB27ADCC6

All the single ladies, all the single ladies… I have been a single lady since 2015. On the heels of my my breakup, of being in a relationship for 10 years, I found myself completely lost. I wanted to replace or fill that void as quickly as I possibly could. I’ve watched people rush into relationships before they were ready or stuck in relationships they weren’t happy in. I didn’t want to make those same mistakes, so I decided to just work on myself instead. Looking back, I’m glad I took the much needed time to heal and find myself.

0EE64175-7D83-43EB-9C1D-B5BB437AB7E5.jpeg

The more time that has passed, the more I love being single. This is no bs, or sugar coating, or just saying it to make myself feel better and to convince you not to. People look sad and pathetically, at you and say oh, you’ll find someone. You won’t feel that way forever, you’ll change your mind for the right one, when the right person/ guy comes around. This is actually insulting to me. I get met with a lot shock, like it’s a bad thing. I’ve been told, you haven’t met the right one, you won’t always feel this way. Wanna bet? I mean, sure there is a chance that I could meet someone amazing and change my mind but you’re going to have to be John Cena because my standards are sky high. However, John Cena, if you’re reading this, hi, you can totally slide into my DMs. Is there is something wrong with me for being completely content with not being in a relationship or a marriage? I don’t think so, and I don’t believe that being in one defines who I am.

061F6902-5887-4B79-B041-18215A164C49.jpeg

One reason why I’m happy I’m single, is that I don’t like to compromise and I no longer have to. I don’t have to indulge my masking or deep conditioning hair rituals. I don’t have to hide shopping bags in my trunk anymore. I don’t have to “run it by” my partner before I make decisions. I no longer have to sacrifice my freedom or independence. No one is holding me back anymore. I buy myself the best presents on holidays (I know exactly the things I love!), I spoil myself rotten….as you should. I go out to eat and watch what I want and I’ve gotten selfish with my time.

4A5A9D5D-63E5-45B3-8279-69C82D1432AA.jpeg

Being single, it irks me to hear women say that their partner is their better half or other half.  Or so and so makes me a better person or brings out the best in me. I don’t deserve this person. No honey, you’re a whole person 100% and it’s been within yourself the entire time. If you do better it’s because you chose to do better. Please give yourself the credit, and not to some boy. Sunsets and sunrises are still beautiful. Being in a relationship doesn’t make the places you see or do diminish the beauty. Humans are so geared to think that we need a partner to merely exist or be truly happy in life. Is something only worthwhile or beautiful if you have someone to share it with? Being alone certainly does not mean that I am lonely.

0CB37956-09AF-4293-89D5-A2A59C0A5920.jpeg

My best reason for being single, is that I’m not an extension of someone. I’m not my best me because of my better half. I am my own person and I love myself first. A friend once told me that she “loves me some me.” I didn’t get it then, it took a while to get to that place. Now, I get it and  I love me some me. Create your own fairy tale, there doesn’t have to be a Prince Charming. Love yourself first, it’s ok. It’s an incredible journey.

Big world, Small Town Treasures

Before I moved to the city, there was a time when  I was a small town girl. As I made my way through Eastern Washington, I knew I had to stop by the place where I had spent a good portion of my life. You know, the type of small town where everyone knows each other, your kids grew up together, and there’s the same grocery clerk that’s been working there for over a decade. It’s crazy, driving through how little had changed and yet so much was different. So much had stayed the same but wait.. is that a new Verizon store, a new fro yo shop that wasn’t there before? I saw this charming small town through different eyes, since I no longer lived there anymore and called this place home. I was now a visitor, an outsider.

5B25485B-111B-480A-9A1C-4E88B2974715

Memories, people and places can hit you like a ton of bricks. A lot of mixed emotions, some that made me smile and some that brought tears to my eyes. It’s one of those, you can come back to visit, but don’t plan on staying. I knew I had moved on, things were different, and I was a whole other person now. What if I had stayed? I wouldn’t have become who I am now.

I used to drive past this sunflower wall daily. To be honest, I don’t know how long it’s been there but definitely as far back as I can remember. Nestled in the back parking lot of a quaint little neighborhood pharmacy, it was a forgotten treasure of this little town. It wasn’t until I moved away, that I finally took a picture here.

D99D72A4-72DE-4740-8BB5-94A7C301AF6C

Change is good, change is scary. I stepped into the big world and in a lot of ways, I wasn’t prepared for it. But that was then and now I don’t have to wonder anymore, what if? But what if I could fly.. and I did.

Thank you for letting me share a part of my world with you. I’m living my dream, one dress at a time.

Jumpers, Rompers and Collabs

9079476E-C26F-4AAB-BF1D-847D3667C353

In my last post, I talked about 5 things I’ve learned in my year in blogging. Today, I’m going to discuss 5 things you shouldn’t do.

1. Don’t get discouraged. A single post or photo can really launch or propel someone in the blog-osphere. Everything happens in its own time, exactly when it’s supposed to happen.  The universe doesn’t make mistakes. Rome wasn’t built in a day. It takes time. Sometimes,  a really long time! But keep going, keep posting, and keep pushing through.

D0B46704-DD9A-483A-8E65-BF62DE1E798F

2. Don’t get too offended. When you put yourself out there on the internet, you’re going to be met with the positive and the negative. Not everyone is going to like or agree with what you have to say or what you’re wearing. Take it as constructive criticism and and keep it moving. You’ve got to develop some thick skin.

3. Don’t follow for follow. It may work but it’s a tiresome game to play. Build. Engage. Network.

F5DE7A7B-FC5C-4BE0-94DC-6A1FEF928E8C.jpeg

4. Don’t be fake. Be yourself, be your most authentic self. Let your self shine and the rest of the world will see that. Be fake and the world will see that too. Would you say that or wear that in real life? If you’re not being truthful or it feels uncomfortable, it will show. Don’t be like anyone else, be authentically you.

7639A9FE-CAC2-4913-B259-9C34D1ACF4C8

5. Don’t compare. It’s too easy to scroll through and compare your thoughts and photos to others. For every photo out there, there will be another that’s going to be better, without a doubt. If you compare yourself to others, you will never feel good enough. You are enough, I promise!

One Year Later

555DF936-CD43-4429-9F21-5CE0980E82E4

Hello everyone! I’m celebrating a land mark date for myself… I’ve been blogging for one year! I’m really into celebrating milestones, however big or small. Achieving goals and accomplishments keeps your dreams big and keeps them growing. I am by no means a pro when it comes to social media, in fact, I still feel that I am in the infant stages. I’m a baby blogger. Here are some things I’ve learned along the way.

1. Consistency is key. When I first started out, I didn’t have a set schedule and often times posted at random. I still get stuck in this at times, I get busy, life gets in the way, etc, we are  all guilty of this. There needs to be a sense of regularity and not haphazard times of whenever is convenient.

2. Quality not quantity. I’ll be honest, I published quite a bit of things that I cringe at now.  I had this urge to get things out there as soon and as much as possible, that the quality wasn’t the best. Regardless, I’ve decided to keep those posts up because they are still ME. Throughout this blogging journey, they became a reminder to myself of how far I’ve come and to learn from mistakes I’ve made.

3. It’s harder than it looks. Initially, I thought it was going to be easy. I mean, my topic is about dresses and although it may be superficial “fluff”, it really does require some time and effort. There’s a whole system in place and not as simple as snapping pics. Photos, location, content, thoughts and ideas all come together to form just one post.

4. Engagement is key. You can have the most aesthetically pleasing post, but without anyone to read or comment can leave you feeling disheartened. Engaging with other like minded people who share your vision or have things in common with are the ways to grow. Building yourself can only happen when you network with others. I struggle with this to this day. In my “real” day to day life, I am quite shy. It’s been difficult sometimes to get out of my own head or come out of my shell, even if it is behind a computer screen.

5. Have fun with it! I’ve come to realize that the more I’ve been doing it, the more enjoyment and fun I’ve had. For example, looking for great photo opportunities and locations ended up becoming a way to travel and experience new things. I probably never would have been to certain places or tried new things if it weren’t for that. It really got me out of my comfort zone.

Thank you so much for following along with me this past year on my blogging journey. I am beyond grateful. This has been such a rewarding and fulfilling experience.

My Pink and Butterfly World

DBB7AE84-7720-4C3A-8EBE-A3637E386C6E

If I could decorate my world, it would be in all shades of pink and fluttery butterflies. I consider myself to be uber feminine and utterly girly. Glitter, flowers, fairies, rainbows, unicorns and mermaids… they’re all invited too. I’m just a girl, young at heart with her head in the clouds, and I’m completely fine with that.Sometimes we are so busy being an adult and think that’s where we belong all the time. I say, keep your dreams and what you love close by and it will keep you young forever.

928495EC-30C0-4FFF-B467-6CF91CAF7BC1

I am so hopelessly drawn to pink and vibrant prints. Honestly, there is nothing better than starting my day with pretty colors or lavish designs. Instant smiles all around. I have a “You look good, you feel good” mentality. I know this sounds materialistic and beauty is only skin deep, but I truly feel more upbeat and ready to face the world when I feel great. I can’t say that I feel that way in a pair of sweatpants. This is a major reason why I love dresses so much, it literally makes you look so put together and it’s so effortless. It looks like you have spent so much time getting ready, when all you’ve done was pull a one piece dress from out of your closet. For whatever mood you’re in, or whatever mood you want to be in, it really is a simple one and done ensemble. I promise, it really is that easy. Did I mention that you can twirl?! Twirling is fun and an added bonus. You can’t twirl in pants, I’ve tried, it doesn’t work.

Being girly in pink and butterflies isn’t for everyone. But it’s me and welcome to my world….

Colors and Camo

C6B149FC-DD18-4E3B-9CB7-A04633AFBFA4

Hello everyone, I hope you’re doing well. It’s my favorite part of the week… the weekend! Today, I’m going to do a combined post of 2 outfits I wore this week. I’m not one to shy away from colors and prints; the brighter and bolder, the better!

I have a true love affair for animal prints, leopard, cheetah, zebra, snakeskin and camouflage is notably on this list as well. Camo prints can be subtle but really a standout piece on its own.  I’m thrilled that it’s come out of the woodwork and join the ranks as a coveted fashion statement. For the risk of looking too military or a look right out of the hunting section, I didn’t want to wear camo with the typical black, brown or green pieces. Of course, I had to add my own touch to it and played around with my favorite color… pink. I thought this was a great contrast, yet unexpected shade to pair with camouflage.

FAAF8D0A-C839-4E71-9D4E-0028CC6926D0

Moving on to color. Colorful prints are a boost of energy, like a Vitamin c shot, in clothing form. Can you really be so unhappy with such vibrant hues that envelope you? Bright colors and bold hues certainly makes me smile and I’m convinced it will make all those around you smile too. You’re basically a walking rainbow and who doesn’t love rainbows? It’s good luck that follows you around all day and just waiting to happen.

Hope you like these two outfit ideas. Consider enriching your days with some color or camo! I can’t promise you true happiness but at the very least, you’ll feel great wearing it.

This Is How I Denim

FF472CF6-6EC7-4F07-9A37-F32C01E56EEB

Many of you already know, I don’t wear jeans or pants, and while I don’t necessarily feel as though I’m missing out, I do love denim.  Other than jeans, denim is easy to find in jackets and shirts but not quite so available in skirt or dress forms. Let’s be honest, many denim skirts and dresses can tend to lean towards being outdated, matronly or demure. My clothing choices do reflect my personality and what I showcase to the world about myself.

As my shirt says, “I rule my world” and this is how I denim. As per my previous post, “The Blogger Tuck”, I’ve recently embraced tucking in my shirts. I decided to give it a go with this denim skirt and really liked how cool and  casual this outfit turned out.

I hope you enjoy this take on denim, as much as I enjoyed wearing it. Maybe you will take a break from the typical denim jeans and try a fun denim skirt this summer! Thanks so much for stopping by!

The Blogger Tuck

”It’s always ice cream o’clock somewhere.”

F059A81F-E60E-4494-8D20-6EFCBBE6FE23.jpeg

Mini getaways are the best, especially when it’s in your home state and only a drive and a ferry ride away. I live for these types of getaways because they’re affordable, fun and can seem a world away from what you’re used to seeing on a daily basis. It blows my mind when people choose to stay home and binge watch tv all day. Don’t get me wrong, I have my moments too, I binged watched the first season of Selling Sunset on Netflix recently, but I digress. My point is, life is short…. get out there and see what this world has to offer. Live and love your life so there won’t be any room left for the could have, should have and would haves.

7AE752A7-E263-42F5-A4B7-33F1B981625F

Let’s talk about the “blogger tuck” for a moment. The blogger tuck is a shirt that is always shown tucked in pants or a skirt. It’s on social media, in fashion magazines, either a full on tuck or a partial (just the middle with sides hanging freely.) Bloggers and influencers make it look so chic, cool and effortless. Meanwhile, I’ve struggled with it. I found myself constantly adjusting and readjusting multiple times throughout the day. If the front was perfect, then the back was bunched up or the whole tuck was uneven. The tuck, as easy as it sounds, was hard for me to pull off. It wasn’t until I started my own blog that I started to embrace it. I’ve been “anti-tuck” that dates back to as far as I can remember.

Being “anti tuck” started when I was a wee little girl. My mom would make me stretch my shirt down until it was taut, and then tucking it securely inside my underwear. This felt incredibly restrictive then, I was too busy having fun on the playground and recess to mess with it. To be honest, this has become my go to method now…. thanks, Mom.  Then came high school, when you’re really starting to discover yourself, your likes and getting into fashion and trends. I went to a private school, while we didn’t have uniforms, the dress code was rather strict. One of the rules, was that all shirts must be tucked in. If the shirt had buttons, it had to be buttoned up and tucked in as well.  So, those cute flannel shirts we liked to wear open as a light jacket or tied around the waist, had to be buttoned up and tucked in. And so began my disdain for tucking, I would not tuck here nor there nor anywhere. Needless to say, I had my fill of tucking in anything. As an adult, making my own rules and choices, I became “anti-tuck.”

78CA55D1-AA3A-4FFA-8981-A13D9568AAB8

It took a little while, but I’m now on board with the blogger tuck. Im not good with the partial in the front, I just don’t think it’s a flattering  look on myself, personally, but I know others who can pull it off well. Kind of like the collar, some look amazing in a popped collar, I am also not one those people. A good tuck makes me feel more polished and put together and I never thought I would feel that way.

Hope you like the look and thanks so much for stopping by!  I’ve included photos of this same chambray blouse tucked vs untucked. Same outfit but different looks and I think it makes a world of difference. What are your thoughts…. to tuck or not to tuck? Let me know in the comments what your thoughts are.

Military Green Dream

“Fashion wasn’t what you wore someplace anymore; it was the whole reason for going.” -Andy Warhol

9BDAFE37-B91D-4068-A8AB-2961A2CED12A

I’ve been to the bunkers at Fort Worden a few times and I enjoy the scenery, rich in history. If I’m being completely honest, I very much had a “I did it for the gram” moment. When I first spotted this dress, I thought to myself, “this dress would be so great for the bunkers at Fort Worden.” So, I made the trek in my “military” green dress to the historical Army bunkers.  Pose, snap, pose, snap… thank you, Andy Warhol, you said it best.

94D3DFF1-AF80-4F9E-9037-67A64C1329A7

You really could spend the whole day here at Fort Worden and we spent hours just wandering and exploring. Fun fact, An Officer and a Gentleman movie was filmed here and in the neighboring town of Port Townsend.

”Military” green, olive green, sage green, moss green… whatever you want to call it, it is having it’s moment. And rightly so, it’s great that this muted color has its chance to shine. I’ve really been in to this subtle yet standout hue and plan to incorporate more pieces in this shade.

Hope you enjoyed the look and a small peek at the bunkers that overlooks the beauty of the Puget Sound. Thanks so much for stopping by!

White Out

DC171EC0-36E5-44C6-B235-019EFC76E501

“I will never be the woman with perfect hair, who can wear white without spilling on it.” -Carrie Bradshaw

I adore white but I don’t wear it often and I don’t have many white pieces in my wardrobe. Why? Because I’ve ruined all of them.  I am clumsy to a fault and anyone that knows me can attest to that. I know that I should have more faith in myself, and I do. I do believe,  that I will for certain, stain my pretty white dress. In fact, I spilled coffee on the front of this dress, just 5 minutes after this photo was taken. Beauties, what are your secrets for wearing white? Starve and sip water all day? Tip toe around gracefully? Should I carry around a stain stick or spray scotch-guard from head to toe? Ironically, all my towels and sheets in my home are white because it’s easy to throw in some bleach in the wash for crisp and clean linens. One would think that I would carry over that same logic with my white clothing, right?

AC222120-BA54-4E7F-A3D9-312A7E04E69E

White is crisp, clean, and so innocent. I think it looks amazing in the spring and summer months. Add in a touch of eyelet material and I feel so pretty, angelic, almost bride like. There is that old “rule”, no white after Labor Day and I do abide by that somewhat. I feel out of place wearing white in the fall or winter. It’s probably all in my head bit I feel more comfortable wearing white in the warmer months.

39EF5D32-6349-42D9-B5BC-26A468DC7103

How do you keep from accidental spills from ruining your favorite white pieces? I swear, this is the only color I struggle with. I seem to become a magnet for stains whenever I wear it. Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated! I would love to wear white more often.

Hope you liked the look today and thanks so much for stopping by!

May Flowers

“The earth laughs in flowers.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

April showers bring May flowers, and it was well worth the wait. Appreciation post and shout out to the month of May for coming through with such astounding beauty.

When I was growing up, I actually disliked the color yellow with a passion. I don’t know why I discriminated against it so much because it’s actually one of my favorite colors now, second to pink, of course. Yellow is such a cheerful shade, it’s vibrant hue is instantly contagious, full energy and happiness. I can’t seem to get enough of it these days.

My 50th Post

This is my 50th post! Woo-hoo! This is a major milestone for me, as I’m absolutely horrible with commitment. Thanks so much for being by my side, as I appreciate YOUR commitment!

0EA17FBB-ED19-4DFD-8F93-F511B73614F7

What better way to celebrate than to wear one of my favorite prints. Leopard… cheetah…. yes, of course!

I took this not so basic cheetah print and combined it with blue. Actually, this was completely accidental and unintentional but I really liked the overall look. I was out shooting photos and forgot my black block heels specifically for this cheetah dress and decided to roll with anyways. This unexpected look turned out better than I had anticipated and I hope you like the look too!

Fierce and Fabulous

Its Fierce and fabulous Friday and nothing makes me feel more this way than a good leopard print. Or is it cheetah? Does anyone  know the differences between the two prints? I see them both used intermittently. Regardless, I’ll take them all!

Leopard print is the new black and I have a feeling it’s going to stick around for a while. Finding this print in a full dress couldn’t have made me happier. I’m all about flashy and bold looks and this one was so wearable and fun!

Up In Arms

4F6A5FD4-C811-437A-8CC6-9CA3EDBF8C86.jpeg

For the love of social media, everyone looks so perfect, having the best time without a hair out of place. It can be an intimidating place to venture into. Snapping a few pics and posting seems so easy until you’re standing there, unsure of what to do. It feels like test anxiety and you’re staring at the page in front of you.

0EB84171-EACE-45BA-8D3D-6D203809ED24

The hardest part of taking photos is not knowing what to do with my hands and arms. Too often I realize that my arm completely disappears. Now that you see it, you can’t “unsee” it, right? Props are of little help and I don’t have enough purses or handbags! It’s either dresses or purses and dresses win every time. My standard go to is my hand in my hair or on my hip. I don’t even realize I’m doing it until I go through photo after photo. Or nailing that pose, but my face…. are my eyes closed? Did I always have man hands? Or my face is fine, smile is great and staring into the lens but that whack pose!

E4774594-BAC7-4177-A69B-4DEDA4D7D52D.jpeg

There are worse things, but please tell me I’m not the only one who struggles with this. I’m literally up in arms. What are your tips for the hands and arms? I would love to hear them!

Happy Hump day and thanks so much for stopping by!

Life’s a Garden

Life’s a garden… dig it! Sometimes it takes new beginnings to see new growth and ending chapters that weren’t leading anywhere. Being amassed by nature’s beauty, I’ve been reminded that it does stop to rain eventually and a flower blooms.

Update post: I had to step away for a little bit. I needed to balance and recenter myself because I was going in the opposite direction of where I needed to be. I’m starting to realize that self realization can be a life long journey and that it’s ok to not have everything figured out. Live in the moment, smile and embrace the beauty that surrounds you.

Weekly Roundup

Hello! It’s been a busy week so I thought I would round up some dress looks in one post. Its been cold and rainy this past week that it’s hard to believe that it’s really spring. However, after the rain, there’s always a rainbow.

I’m not one to shy away from prints/ patterns and I’ve been wearing more of them lately. One print this has caught my eye and has been popping up every where is camoflauge. Camo with a feminine twist.

I love patterns that are unusual and not your average floral, stripes, polka dots, etc. When I spotted this wrap dress with white stars, I was… starstruck.

Paying homage, Seattle, home of grunge/ alternative. Little did I know, one day, I would be living in a city that popularized some of the music I grew up to.

Florals for the Pikes Place Marker seemed only fitting, right?

Hope you liked the looks! Dress details below:

  • Rainbow sweater by Forever 21. Denim skirt Girbaud (my closet). Bright Pink Hunter Boots
  • Camo bodycon Dress by Rainbow shops
  • Starprint Dress by Target
  • Plaid duster by Mossimo and black tie front dress by H&M
  • Red floral dress by Antrhopology

Thanks for stopping by and hope you feel inspired to wear a dress today! ~In a world full of pants, be a dress~ Jules

Throwback Ootd

Its Throwback Thursday and I thought it would be fun to post some pics that were forgotten along the way. Vacations are some of the best, especially if you have photos to remind of you of those memories. I’m missing Vegas and the palm trees and can’t wait until my next trip.

79FA5196-DC5D-4EA8-B3AB-DC0CF84B950C

Besides pink, yellow would be my next runner up in choice of favorite colors. Yellow is so cheery, sunny and uplifting! I paired the bell sleeve sweater with a polka dot maxi skirt for a fun look. Polka dots are fun, carefree and whimsical.  A lot of times, red is paired with black/ white polka dots. I do love the red combo sometimes, but more often than not, I feel as though I am trying to resemble Minnie Mouse with the polka dots.  I try and veer towards other colors such as yellows, pinks and blues for that reason. I hope you liked the look and thanks for stopping by my throwback post!

Stepping Out in Snake Skin

7B331555-FF72-4790-8A0C-46EF2B44D25F.jpeg

I am a huge fan of all things animal print… leopard, cheetah, zebra and last but not least, snake skin. (Faux, of course.) I don’t have a favorite, I love them all! Animal prints are of a louder variety, be prepared to get noticed and stand out! This is an unexpected look but adds so much flair and is effortlessly chic. Animal prints speak for themselves. These prints are bolder than your typical stripes, polka dots, florals but still gorgeous in its own right.

A058C20A-B465-4227-A0EF-CBA756EA0EEA

Unleash your inner animal instincts. Animal prints are bold, sexy and fierce. While cheetah and leopard are usually easier to find, it seems that snake skin prints are fleeting and found mostly on handbags and purses. I own my fair share of animal prints, but this has been my only and newest snake skin addition to my closet… so far. My animal print section of my closet is starting to resemble a small zoo! My favorite Tv mom is Peg Bundy, so I believe my thanks and gratitude goes to her for my early love of all things bright, bold and cheetah.

If you’re interested in trying out animal prints but not ready to wear it in a full dress, start off small. Try a skirt, a top, cardigan, scarf or shoes for an unexpected and fun pop to your outfit. Today I’m wearing a snake skin print dress by Top Shop. I knew from the moment I spotted it, that it was meant to be. Hope you enjoyed the look!

April Fools Day

Just like that, March has passed so quickly and we are now living in the beauty of spring. After such a gorgeous and sunny weekend, it’s a bit of a downer to start the week with some overcast and rain. Pink is such a vibrant, energetic and playful color and perfect for the Monday blues.

4E9044DB-B6DF-4055-8FCE-F1E6B9E252CC.jpeg

For my outfit of the day, I paired a white, pink and fuschia striped sweater (it’s still a bit chilly here) and a denim skirt. Since I don’t wear jeans or pants, I still love denim and incorporate it when I can. I like that I can wear denim in jackets, dresses or skirts, it’s a cute look without having to throw on a pair of jeans.

Cherry Blossom Love

F7A92850-3D9D-48A3-9067-366B964ACE63

One of my most favorite times of the year in Seattle, is when the air is filled with the fragrant blooms of beautiful cherry blossoms. The city traffic, buildings, and seemingly never ending rainfall, it can be hard sometimes to see beauty amongst the hustle and bustle.  It was a gorgeous sunny weekend and the trees were in line and in full bloom. The pink and white blossoms were so captivating, it felt like I was on location, shooting the most romantic movie scene.

Cherry blossoms are breath taking, delicate, romantic, soft yet beautiful in color and I wanted to wear a dress that would reflect that. For this enchanting view, I wore a blush pink lace dress from Lulu’s. Hope you enjoyed the look and thank you for stopping by!

Spring is in the Air

2DE248A8-DDE8-4A6E-98C6-CD6CD226F8C9.jpeg

Hello lovelies, it’s been a little while! The cold has a way of bringing on the winter blues and the start of spring has lifted some of the darkness. Spring is such a renewal of energy for me. It’s almost as if I’ve been hibernating away all winter and now I’m awake and feel alive. The sun is out earlier, the birds are singing me a chorus every morning, new life is blooming and the sun is setting later.

9BCF5056-CDEA-443E-AB15-D031C1122264.jpeg

Spring represents the soft blooms, sunshine, warmth. The dead of winter is giving way to a season of softer and lighter tones and fabrics. In nature, subtle yet beautiful colors are coming into bloom. It’s time to leave the darker hues of fall and winter behind and bring some needed color back. Spring is a fun time to experiment with colors, pastels and florals.

I’m enjoying the warmth and golden rays today in a sunny yellow floral dress from Tj Maxx. Yellow represents sunny optimism…what better way to start spring! Hope you enjoyed the look!

Stuff and Fluff (Pt I)

4F0C91FC-B4E9-4055-BEFA-242F340B2C67

Seattle is getting caught up in a snow storm this weekend. I thought, what better time to do a “get to know me” post. Beyond my love for dresses and the color pink, I’ll be sharing 10 things about me, some “real stuff” and some “fun fluff.” Let’s start with the first 5, so be sure to check my upcoming post for Part II.

C04E9921-CD41-416F-A39E-81365CF6031E

1. I’m quite shy. On the exterior, you may never guess it, I can smile, make small talk and engage in conversations. On the inside, I’m rattled and having a mini social anxiety moment. I’m not one to be the center of attention although what’s on the outside doesn’t always reflect that. I like to wear bright colors and standout patterns and you would think that I have a loud, outgoing and boisterous personality. However, I’m quite the opposite. Maybe the things I am wearing on the outside is just myself projecting who I want to be internally. My love of pink and animal prints may well be a good reflection of who I really am underneath and this is my way of bringing her out.

7979EEB5-A09C-43B5-A45D-DD6C812FB7C9

2. When I was younger, my dream was to be a model and a writer. I went about it the unconventional and non traditional way, but I can actually say that I’m living my dream. This may not be everyone else’s idea of being a model/ writer, but it’s mine. This is making me happy and I’m falling in love with the process. I get to wear my dresses and write about it! Always be your own star! Therefore, in my eyes, I’m  model and a writer.

3. I’m hopelessly directionally challenged. It doesn’t matter if I’ve been there a dozen times or if my GPS is on. Chances are, Ill take the street right before, miss an exit or just take a wrong turn in general. I’m not sure how it happens, but if you want to be late or lost, I’m your girl. I try, I really do.

9CA9F888-1DDA-4F4F-B966-35D1B0FB6F10

4. I love coffee! I’m not sure if it’s a prerequisite to love coffee if you are a Seattle-ite, given that there are Starbucks and barista stands on every corner. I started when my son was a toddler, just to keep up with all of his energy. Years later, I’m still finding excuses for my morning cup of joe. There is nothing quite like a jolt of java that gets me going into high gear.

5. I’m a vegetarian. At times, i can be a “flexitarian” but generally I choose to go meatless. It was a choice I made a few years ago and I’m genuinely happy with my lifestyle change.  Don’t get me wrong, vegetarian doesn’t always mean healthy. I can’t turn down cheese and indulge in more than my fair share of chips and candy. With meat though, I just don’t have a taste for it.

A Splash of Pink

9DF27536-7ACF-4AF2-B573-824506EA4FB0.jpeg

Brrrrr… it’s cold and snowy, it’s most definately winter. I like a little snow here and there but I’m really hopeful for an early spring!  A splash of color is a fun way to break away from the bleak winter days. Pink is my favorite color. Pink can have a calming effect and can help ease symptoms of depression and anxiety. Sometimes, a bright pink can be a little challenging to pair or even a little intimidating. I’m not one to shy away from brights, especially pink. Let the vibrant color speak for itself by combining it with a shade that’s toned down. By pairing with a neutral shade, it’s much more wearable.

Can we take a minute and talk about Hunter boots? The rain boot, the ever popular Wellington’s that even the royals and everyone else under the sun that’s been sporting them. I’m in love with mine and even with the endless colors and styles, I still gravitated towards the bright pink pair. No regrets in getting a bold hue at all, I’ve worn these on repeat at least a dozen times now. Living in Seattle, rain boots are a must have. Yes, it’s true, it’s always raining in Seattle. It rains over 150 days out of the year and you can bet I’ll be wearing them a lot! Do you own a pair of hunter rain boots? Which color is your favorite?

A floral affair

9633eb9b-5a30-4043-8e4a-3b13086a31cf

Whats better than actually receiving flowers? For me personally, I prefer my flowers on a dress. Floral prints never wilt, wither or die.  They look alive and fresh all the time. I think flowers are a true representation of romance, love or starting a new. With Valentines Day right around the corner, this is a great time to include some flowers on a dress in your closet. Or anytime, really.

Floral dresses make me feel graceful, flirty and forever a romantic dreamer. It’s great for dates. Dinner? Eiffel Tower? Picnic? A moonlight stroll? Check, check and check… floral dresses for the win!

For today’s look, I’m wearing a black pink floral dress with billowy ruffle sleeves. I’m really loving the black lace detail, subtle  Victorian, but a gorgeous standout.  Hope you add a little sparkle and floral to your day!

Not A Dress Snob

e3048b6e-e2fb-416d-9659-db6da6f6fc20

Something I get asked frequently is “Where do you get all your dresses from?” I’m asked as if I’m about to disclose my favorite shop and I have one main supplier. Friends, I’ll let you in on my secret…..I buy my dresses everywhere and anywhere. I have dresses from Walmart, Target, mall stores, department stores, from friends, boutiques, flea markets, discount stores, online and more. I don’t have a favorite store and have been pleasantly surprised by some of the dresses and skirts I’ve aquired from some of these places. I don’t discriminate and that is how I built my dress wardrobe. I’m not a dress snob, I just love dresses regardless of where I’ve bought them from. There are some dresses that I have had in my collection for years and still wear today because of how timeless and classic they are, even with today’s fast fashion and modern trends.

I tend to shop more traditionally, I prefer brick and mortar stores over online shopping. With so many different styles, lengths and dress options out there, not everything looks like it does on the model, from your monitor. Just as if you were browsing in store, you should definately try on before you buy. Sometimes a dress could look gorgeous on the hanger and left little to be desired after trying it on.

For today’s look, I’m wearing a neutral beige dress with pockets. For the love of pockets, I get so excited about that small detail. To keep warm and keeping it in season with a plaid scarf. The scarf was actually my one and only purchase from Black Friday 2018. I’ve been wearing with a lot this past winter.  Do you have a favorite go to store that doesn’t let you down or do you shop around like I do? Let me know in the comments!

Not So Basic LBD

9C120154-0621-40C0-A1E6-0D6C0C4E8C60.jpeg

For the the love of the LBD. The “little black dress.” We all have at least one in our closet that we bring out and it’s just right for most any occasion. Black dresses are a classic and should be a staple piece in our wardrobes. It just goes with a lot and it’s chic in its own way.

I have a bittersweet love for the color black. Some time ago, I attended a beauty school. The school uniform was black… all black. In theory, black is a neutral shade, a blank canvas. Wearing black as a stylist/ artist helps ensure that there are no other colors competing with your client’s coloring or tone. In essence, your client becomes the true focal point, the star of the show.  Wearing black has a way of making you look polished and trendy. Unfortunately, I’ve had my fill of all black and wear the shade sparingly now.

When I do wear black, I like to add some color, texture or prints. These details can really take your LBD up a notch. This is also a good way to play with bolder colors that you wouldn’t typically wear. If you have a bright scarf or jacket that you rarely wear becauae it’s hard to pull off, throw it on top of a black dress. It’s a new look and not your basic LBD anymore.

Bows With Fringe Benefits

There’s that accessory rule/ guideline, which states, that before you leave the house, remove one piece of jewelry. I’ve never abided to that rule, the more the better, is what I live by. I’m an over-accessorizer. In keeping true to my 2019 word of the year, I choose to “sparkle” inside and out!

I think it’s darling when a dress or skirt come embellished with details, It’s like another accessory I’ll gladly stack to my overly accessorized self. Whether it’s bows, fringe, tassels or ruffles, it’s the details that really bring your outfit to life.

For my outfit of the day, I paired a cream bow tie blouse with a checkered fringed dress. I love bows, either in my hair or on my dresses, it’s a graceful and feminine look.

Locked In Love

A4B0FE29-D646-4FD2-83D9-D9C60E41145A.jpeg

My vacation days are coming to an end and I knew there were some places I had to stop by before I leave. I grabbed a lock and headed to the Love Locket Scuplture. This would be a symbolic gesture to…. myself. The last few years have been an incredible journey of ups and downs, overcoming challenges and truly learning to love myself. I’m not attached to anyone, free as bird, and I have been enjoying this time to really understand myself.

a891a1fd-17e4-4513-a768-a82f4c61b09e

We are with “ourselves” more than anyone else, yet we are our own toughest critics. We put others first and lose track of our own wants and needs. There was a long period of trying to re-discover who I was and I’m still in the discovery phase. Maybe I will always be searching and looking for who Jules is…. but in the meantime, I’m going to love myself every step of the way.

I placed the lock, snapped it in place and left my mark in a heart. Something so simple, but now I am officially locked in, a reminder to love the woman I was before, now and the future.

I wore a colorful print dress by Lularoe. I am in no way affiliated with the company nor am I a “representative” for sales. I just love dresses and when one catches my eye, I’ll wear it! Hope you enjoy the look and hope you enjoy the rest of your week!

Fabulous Faux Fur

3ee362dc-6c18-48e3-a247-9943de8ced77

Jackets and coats are meant to keep us warm in the winter and they can take your dresses up a notch. Unless you live some where always warm or tropical, it’s inevitable. You just can’t walk around in dresses all day in the winter without a coat. This has been my favorite season for coats and jackets. I’ve been fawning over the faux furs, sherpas and teddy bear coats. I love this blush faux fur coat and have worn this on repeat several times! I’m still on the look out for the perfect teddy bear jacket/ coat and it is on the top of my wishlist.

For traveling purposes, I find that dresses are simple to pack and you can add so much more in your carry on/ suitcase rather than multiple pants/ shirts. I roll my dresses rather than fold them and I haven’t had any issues with wrinkling. Dresses are a dream for packing and traveling!

I’ve been in Las Vegas quite a few times but never to “The Sign”.  This was high on my things to see and do list and seized the moment  to play the cheesy tourist! I wore a marbled grey dress with pleats and my new favorite faux fur. Hope you liked the look!

Sparkle

846B7DD8-59F4-42B6-BDDE-0881C87AB623

Happy New Years!! I’m bursting with energy today and feel incredibly optimistic for 2019. This is going to be one of my best years yet, I can feel it. Hope your goals, resolutions and dreams be in your favor this year.

04CC749F-3086-49D7-8F91-46FA0904D411.jpeg

I’ve picked my word of the year. I’ve decided to Sparkle. I want to sparkle, shine and dazzle and let the person I’m meant to be come out. Today and for 2019, as I strive to be the best possible version of myself and all aspects of my life, Im going to sparkle every step of the way.

New Years Eve was so much fun and I wanted my dress to reflect that. I’ve been obsessed with bell bottom sleeves lately and I’ve been wearing them in my past couple of posts. Bell bottom sleeves can really add aome flair to an otherwise plain colored shirt. I’m always thrilled when I’m able to find this style. In Vegas, it’s still gets cold, so I’m glad I packed my blush pink, faux fur coat. I felt so glam, and if this is what J. Lo or Khloé Kardashian feel like, then I’m all in! Hope you liked the look and here’s to an amazing 2019!

Holiday Red

E4A17C9A-5C0E-45A6-9D5B-43A409150348

Happy New Years Eve! Waking up to the bright sunshine and palm trees was a beautiful start for my last day of 2018.

I love a black and red combo. There’s something about the two together that really makes your outfit sassy and bold. I get a little hesitant when I throw white into the mix because it’s easy to venture into the Minnie Mouse territory. With this black and white dress, I took it up a notch and accessorized with a touch of red.

This was my look of the day and hope you liked it. Please tell me I’m not the only one with a macaron obsession. The colors and flavor selections get me everytime! Happy New Years Eve! Best Wishes!

Plaid, Pearls and Resolutions

7B27AE5B-2978-488B-B56F-D88F868AC2F7

Christmas has come and gone so quickly and the New Year will be here in just a matter of days. Most people have New Years Resolutions in hopes for their best year yet. I haven’t made any resolutions and I haven’t done so for the past few years. Instead, I come up with a word and live accordingly to that word for the year.

I take time to pick my word of the year and it’s related to what is going on in my life at the time. Here are my words I’ve used in the past and I can truly say that I did my absolute best to live by them.

  • 2016- Fabulous

I am days away from New Years and I still haven’t picked my word yet. I’m torn between 2….. Sparkle or Focus. Will I sparkle or be more focused in 2019? What word would you pick to live by for the next year?

My Favorite Plaid

B857C611-4A49-429D-B531-43041038D736

As a dress enthusiast, it’s a moment of joy when you find your favorite plaid print in a dress. Of course, you can find plaid in an array of choices, shirts, jackets, scarves but not often in a dress/ or skirt form.

This was a meant to be moment in Target and I had my fingers crossed as I headed to the dressing room. It was a great fit and I couldn’t be happier with the traditional green/ blue, blackwatch tartan print. I also appreciated the modern and feminine touches of this dress, the sleeves were sheer and the belted bow was lovely.

I loved this dress so much that I also took family photos in them. Keep an eye out, I will be including those in a future post.

Hope you enjoyed the look and take a chance wearing plaid beyond the flannels and scarves. Happy holidays and thanks for stopping by!

Ruffles and Bows

2DC6ED27-E1B6-47B6-8FD2-CBE149FF1129.jpeg

Does anyone remember when there was a pay phone around every corner? There was a time when some of us carried around quarters or phone cards. It was really neat to come across a functioning pay phone and it even came with the yellow pages! Did I make a phone call? No…. I have a cell phone for that now. How far we’ve all come to have a device that fits in our hand!

It’s the first week of December! Is it just me, or did the weather start getting colder? Here’s a bold yet wearable look as the temperatures keep dropping. This is quite a busy dress, there’s a lot going on here. I really like the maroon/ wine shade, it’s a nice hue for the fall/ winter seasons. I love bows, ties and ruffles and this floral, high waisted dress had it all. There really is quite a lot going on, but it is wearable. I felt so feminine and loved the movement from the ruffles. Ruffles and bows aren’t just for little girls. Just like unicorns, they’re for everyone!

Faux Pearls Faux Suede

52DB57AF-1464-438E-8B59-E8593CD905EA

I can’t get enough of skirts and OTK (over the knee boots). I’ve been wearing them untill the weather dictates it’s time for tights/stockings/ leggings. Fortunately,  I live in Seattle and while it’s definately been rainy, it hasn’t been freezing cold yet.

My Wednesday “hump day”, Outfit of the day is a faux pearl cream sweater and a faux suede camel skirt. Honestly. I feel that both the sweater and the skirt are closet essentials. They’re both so versitile, and you can wear or mix/ match with so much of what you already have. I usually lean towards bold, bright colors and prints but I’m learning that neutrals can make a statement too.

Hope your middle of the week is going fabulous. Thanks for stopping by!

Maximize Your Mini

3E2C787E-CFCF-4701-87EC-65C6174B57B7

“Look in the mirror and ask yourself-what do I want to do everyday for the rest of my life? Then go do that.” Gary Vaynerchuk

Rise and grind… it’s Monday, grab your morning coffee and start your day. My morning routine typically starts at 530 am with a cup of coffee, and either music or a tv show playing in the background as I’m getting ready.  Feeding your mind is so important, that I decided to change things up a little. I didn’t give up my coffee but I did change the things I listened to. I began listening to Gary V while I was doing my hair/ makeup and Zig Ziegler on my commutes. Instead of a jumpstart on my day, I felt a jumpstart on my life. For myself, I wanted to stay motivated, inspired and enrich my mind. This has been a way for me to maximize my time even when I’m busy with other things.

The mini skirt…. it’s brazen, it’s bold, its a sexy look. It’s not just for going out, you can rock the mini day or night. Wearing a mini skirt, can make you feel a little exposed. Adding a cardigan or jacket makes it a cute and wearable look. A body suit underneath keeps everything in place all day without adjusting.

Maximize your day and rock that mini! What are your morning rituals and tips to stay motivated? Don’t let that mini skirt hide in your closet…. be bold, maximize it!

Sassy in a Smock Dress

3FC33A79-AC99-46C9-BBDD-2995D702A125

Its Thanksgiving weekend! Christmas trees and lights are twinkling and it’s the official start of Black Friday. The holiday season is here! The countdown begins…. 33 days untill Christmas! I did brave the crowds to scour the deals and only bought a single item. I scored plaid scarf from old navy and I’m excited to incorporate it in a future blog post.

F85C8A6E-C99E-4C07-A0A4-1D67A8CBD4C5

Today, I’m wearing a belted, button up, corduroy smock dress. I’ve been noticing that smock dresses are popping up everywhere, in a ton of different colors, textures, and plaids. This dress was comfortable and easy to pair with pretty much anything under it. To keep everything in its place, I opted to layer this smock dress with a striped body suit.

Hope you liked the look! What are your thoughts on smock dresses? Have you been rocking them this season?

Thanksgiving Throwback

8E7B352B-EF16-48B0-ACA9-68BCD93DBE8A.jpeg

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone is enjoying their day!

As many do on Thanksgiving, I started reflecting on what I was thankful for. I’m truly thankful for so much…..friends, family, love, life….I’m grateful for my journey and experiences. It’s taught me well and I’m still learning. Thank you for being a part of it.

Today’s throwback is a reminder to live, love, laugh, not just on Thanksgiving, but everyday.

Sneakers and Dresses

The sneakers with dresses trend started a few years back and has been hugely popular since. I’m typically a heels type of girl and wearing sneakers, unless at the gym, didn’t appeal to me. Needless to say, I’m behind on the trend but I’ve been fully embracing the look lately.

While being in Korea, there is quite a lot of walking around. A good, comfortable pair of shoes is a must here. After a few times of venturing the city in heels, I decided to put them back in the closet for the time being. Due to the amount of traveling I’ve been doing, heels just don’t seem practical.

Sneakers paired with dresses change up your outfit to effortless and easy. Your look becomes casual, comfortable and stylish. I can’t believe I waited so long to try this look! It now seems as if a whole new world has been opened up to me and I just can’t get enough. Who knew there were so many cute sneakers on the market? Obviously, I didn’t and I was the last one to get the memo. However, I’m happy that I’m wearing them now and will continue to do so in the warmer months.

My (Half) Birthday

46435972-0771-4529-91E7-21EE86099FBB

Today is my half Birthday and I think that is cause for a celebration! If you ask me how old I am today, I am probably going to lie. Not because I’m embarrassed of my age, but because, after a certain age, a woman likes to keep those things to herself. Half birthdays aren’t recognized anymore after the age of twelve or so. Up until that age, we were more than happy to tell everyone and we made sure we proudly include the half after the year. No one really has a party or anything like that but why can’t you you enjoy your special half year mark? I think we should celebrate it and I’ll do it wholeheartedly.

F7244D29-6389-4A6F-93AE-511F308D841D

There are limited things in life that we choose to celebrate. I choose to acknowledge the big and the small, it really does make life worthwhile. Life is too short, to only recognize monumental moments and achievements. I’m a big believer in loving yourself and doing the things that bring you happiness. Today, I’m going to treat myself to my favorite caramel iced coffee and eat all the macarons that my heart desires. It’s my day, my half birthday, my half birthday week and my half birthday month! Welcome to my party! I’m grateful and blessed to be alive to be able to enjoy this experience. This is my first year celebrating this special day and I’ve been anticipating this for 6 months. I plan to do make this day special every year and keep this tradition going. I’m glad I did it and I wish you would celebrate yours too!

My Seoul Secret

328FD04B-01E3-4378-8509-9AC9BBC0A4BF

I’ve been keeping a secret. A big secret. I’m going to Korea! I didn’t dare utter this before, maybe because I was afraid that if anything  bad could happen, it would. I’m a relentless worrywart and my anxiety gets the best of me. Usually in my case, if something is going to go wrong, it typically does. Cancelled flight? Yup, it’s mine. Plane crash? Damn, why does this happen to me?! I didn’t want to jinx it and I didn’t even feel the excitement until I had actually boarded the plane. This trip is 17 years in the making and I really had to pinch myself to believe that it’s real and really happening! I could hardly contain myself, as I stretched out on all 3 seats. Yes, I had all 3 seats to myself!! Window, aisle and middle, this girl got so lucky and now I’m counting my lucky stars!

I was born and raised in Korea (Seoul, specifically) and spent my formative years here and even my rebellious teenage years here. I had dreamt of going home for so long and I’m here! As soon as I got off of the plane, I cried. I cried tears of joy, tears of sadness and tears of relief. I cried for the young girl I left behind and the woman I was becoming. Tears rolled down my my face freely, without abandon, I was finally home. It felt surreal, I kept wondering if I was dreaming. If I was dreaming, I never wanted to wake up.

Why did it take so long for me to return? Trust me, I wanted to come back. Every single day. For 17 years, I wanted nothing more than to be “home” in my “motherland.” The truth is, I had to put my longing on hold. I was a young mom raising two boys, a family. Let me tell you, raising two boys is expensive but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. My time with them was beyond precious and so fleeting. As many parents, especially single parents would know, there are always expenses and unexpected expenses that crop up. It’s really never ending, once you pay off one, here comes the other. Even if when I could afford a round trip plane ticket, how could I afford a place to stay, food and other accommodations on top of my monthly bills?

For years, I avoided a lot K-pop and Korean dramas because they were too painful. It was as if, what I had wanted so badly was right in front of me yet so far out of reach. My eyes would well up in tears every time. Seeing them made me so emotionally invested, it was just easier if I avoided them altogether. I even stopped speaking Korean, at restaurants or markets. I can’t explain why, I just know that it was easier to pretend that this part of me didn’t exist rather than face it.

C9F92226-DAEE-485D-95F3-8405329E06AB.jpeg

Coming back to Korea, felt like a now or never moment. My boys were grown and I was empty nesting. I was so drawn to go… I had talked about it for years. I couldn’t put it off any longer, 17 years was already long enough.

So, I’m here now and I couldn’t be happier. Land of the Morning Calm…. I’m home, I’m free and I love every minute of it.

Thank you so much for being a part of my journey.
